REDUCED PRODUCTION INVOLVED
By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright-Sydney, April 14.
Mr. James M'Mahon, president of the Employers’ Federation, commenting on Judge Beeby’s forty-four hour week report, stilted that the decision would eventually affect all other industries, particularly the transport workers, who would ■bo compelled to cease work on Saturdays if the factories were idle. In round figures, the change meant a reduction in production by .£8,000,(XX). Mr. J. Clinton Love, president of the Chamber of Manufactures, said a shorter week would mean extra expense to community, also more leisure, but higher prices for tho workers. Judge Beeby, when examining’the confidential leather, sales accounts at the leather inquiry, remarked that leather values had fallen 50 per cent.
A note of general satisfaction prevails at the Trades Hall as the result of the report.—Press .Assn. (Reo. April 14, 9.45 p.m.) Sydney April 14.
