A DIMINISHED CREDIT BALANCE.
Hoyr rapidly the increase in working expenses has gained on the increase in revenue in the City Council’s electric light department during the past twelve months is shown in the diminished credit balance for. the financial year just ended. Dor some yearn past this department has shown very substantial credit balances. Even the year 1919-20 endtd with a credit of .£18,367, hut the credit for the year just closed only am punts to .£3OBl. During the past financial year the City Council’s electrical department sold 6,530.220 units of electricity as compared with 5,968j616 the year before. On March 31, 1920, the number of consumers ot electric light in Wellington was 17,992. By March 31 last the number had increased to 19.714. The increase of revenue for the year was -68325, but the increase in working expenses amounted to no loss than-,£24.634.
