WOMEN POLICE

A REQUEST RENEWED.

A request for the appointment ot women police was made to the Minister of Justice (Hon. E. P. Loe) yesterday by a deputation ’ representing the Society for tho Protection of Women and Children. The society had made the sumo request to other Ministers on various occasions. Dr. A. K. Newman, M.P., introduced the deputation. , Mrs. A. R. Atkinson eaid that very many requests had been made for the appointment of women police. A tremendous body of testimony in favour ot women police had been placed on record in the files of the Department. Nearly all the American cities had found the system successful. Five policewomen had done most valuable >vork in Adelaide, and had been highly 'commended by the regular police. The success of the system depended on the choice of suitable women, and the deputation wished to suggest that Lady Stout and Mrs. Massey should be entrusted with the selection of two fully-trained policewomen in Lngland. These women would tram selected women in this country. The system would thus be established on a sound footing. Dr. Newman said that very many women were strongly in favour of the appointment of women police. A very big field of work in connection with girls nn« women awaited the attention of such women; , x .
