CHARGE AGAINST ESMONDE
OUTBREAK OF RELIGIOUS STRIFE
FEARED. (Rec. April 8, 5.5 p.m.) Vancouver, April 7. The precipitancy of the Mayor in arresting Esmond© on the charge of using seditious language has resulted in Esmond© being given newspaper space throughout the continent. The Mayor, fearning an outbreak of religious strife, and having failed to induce the authorities at Ottawa to take th© case off his hands, suggested that he would not prosecute if Esmonde would immediately journey to Atlantic ports. Refusing the compromise, Esmonde, who was bailed out, engaged the leading Roman Catholic lawyers to fight the charge. Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
