TWO GIRLS COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, April 8. Freda Hjitchinson, aged fourteen years, and Margaret Metcalfe, aged eighteen years, charged with, arson in connection with the fires at the Door of Hope, came before. Mr. Poyn.top, S.M., for sentence. The Magistrate sa’d he had decided no* to follow hi s first intention of permitting a reduction of t'he charge to one of mischief. notwithstanding the youth of accused, and the fact that they were partly irresponsible. The crime was so serious that it should be dealt with by a JudgeThe punishment would not be more severe, but io reduce so serious a charge might raise an undesirable precedent, ■and. raise public suspicion of special 'favours. Hutchinson entered a plea, of guilty, and Metcalfe pleaded not guilty. Boilh girls were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
