MR. WRIGHT AT MARANUI

Mr R. A. Wrighti addressed tho electors at the Maranui Churchroom. Lyall Bay last evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr. T. Fathers was voted to the chair. . Mr Wright, amongst other subiects. dealt with the sanddrift question at Lyall Bay, and admitted that it was a serious problem, which up to the present had not been solved. Drastic steps on the part of propertv-owners were necessary, otlherwise many properties would be seriously injured. The matter h'ad been before the Finance Committee, which was awaiting a report on the question. - A number of Questions were answered, and a vote of thanka to the speaker was moved by Mr. Burgoyne-Thomas. seconded by Mr. Collins, and carried.

‘ MR. HISLOP AT NEWTOWN. Mr Hislop addressed a meeting at the Library Hall, Newtown, last evening. Mr. Dickson being in the chair. The candidate dealt with the shortages ot a number of years between the city s income and expenditure, and replied to Mr. Wright’s suggestion that he had been inconsistent in advocating certain expenditure such as the Day’s Bay purchase He pointed out that ho had deducted from tho actual increase all such expenditure as that on Day’s Bay, as, for instance, in the year from March, 1919, to 1920 the over expenditure had been 4)57 000, and deducting the cost of permanent works, 4)36,000, there was an actual deficiency of .821,000 tor the year, for which we got no value. Ihe losses of the several years wont on unchecked. He objected to the hasty way in which liabilities were increased. After a number of questions were put and answered a vote of thunks and confidence was p<v>ced without dissent.

Mr R A Wright will address the electors at St. Hilda’s Hall. Island Bay, this evening, at 8.30. Mr. Hislop will speak at Wie Lyall Bay Church Ball at 8 o clock this evening, and at Kelburn to-morrow.
