FIRES IN THE CITY
The services of the Eire Brigade were required at the New Commercial Hotel at 12.45 p.m. yesterday, a fire having broken out in the roof. The flames, thought to have been started by a spark from an adjoining chimney, were soon extinguished. The damage was slight. At 5.30 last evening the brigade was called to a fire at No. 193 Vivian Street, a building used as a hat and cap factory by Samuel Triester, its owner. The buildings and contents were badly damaged. The building was insured in the Commercial Union Office for an amount which could not be ascertained last night. There was an insurance of £3500 on the contents in the Northern office. The brigade received a call at 8 o’clock last night to Durham Street, where they extinguished a gorse fire.
