FISHER’S REASONS FOR REFUSING TO JOIN BRITISH.

(Rec. April 4, 7.20 p.m.) London, April 4.

In declining the selection commit tee’s invitation to join the British Davis Cup team; F. M. B. Fisher declares that he has no confidence in the committee, which has 'badly failed in its obligations towards the game. British lawn tennis is at a low ebb, and will continue so under the present committee’s regime. He describes the amazing blunders of the last two years, by which failures have been selected over the heads of men who emerged from a strenuous season with a succession of victories. Mr. Fisher also refers to the "clique-ism run mad, while an incompetent and apathetic association site as an acquiescent spectator.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

REPRESENTATION OF AUSTRALASIA.

The question of withdrawing from this year’s matches for the Davis Cup has not yet been considered by the Lawn Tennis Association of Australasia, and it is almost certain, that the suggestion, if even made on the basis of "a forlorn hope," will be given short shrift, states the "Age." The inclination of the Aust tralian governors of tennis is to send a team —the strongest available: "failing the strongest team, the next best, and failing that—well, a team.” Mr. T. Hicks, hon. secretary of the Australasian association, stated that the rumour of Australasia’s possible withdrawn! was news to him. "We have not given the matter a moment's thought,’’ he said. "Our challenge has gone forward, and, as far as I know, Australasia will be striving this year to win back the cup. The position at the moment is that Mr. Norman Brookes, the sole selector of the team, has been requested by the council to nominate its personnel.
