BOATING FATALITY
THREE MAORIS DROWNED
RESCUE PARTY IN GREAT DANGER

Three Maoris were drowned, ami the members of a rescue party nearly lost their lives, off the coast some miles from New Plymouth, to-day. A party ot five Maoris left the coastal town of Oaonui on a fishing excursion, nntj in n fairly heavy swell their boat capsized, theanchor keeping the craft from righting itself.
Mr. Cleghorn, of Opunako, a powerful swimmer, went out in a 'bo,-it with three Maoris as a rescue party, but their boat also capsized, and the rescuers were in danger. All, however, reached the shore after exciting experiences. An eyewitness says that they owe their lives to the resource and courage of Mr. C'legh°Tbe drowned are. Monday Mitchell (Oaonui), Jimmy Rangi (Rahotu), and Peepi (Normanby). There is no sign of the bodies to-night.
