The effect of the firemen’s strike on the Waliine has been most acutely felt in tho Marlborough service, owing to the withdrawal of the Arahuns to ply in the Lyttelton run. A number of Blenheim residents, who came over on Monday night, with the intention of returning to-night, now find that they cannot return till Thursday. Among them was the Progress Committee's organiser, Mr. Will Lawson. During yesterday Mr. Lawson was in touch with tho Union Company, with the object of having the Mapourika, which sails to-night for Nelson, diverted to call at Picton. It was found, howev> - that this was impossible without jeopifrSTsing the West Coast connection at Nelson.
