ENGLISH JOINERS’ STRIKE
CAUSES DELAY IN STEAMER’S REFITTING. (Rec. March 20, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 18. It is expected that the extensive refitting of the Kangaroo at Southampton will be considerably delayed owing to the joiners’ strike. She will commence loading early in May. Ample cargo offers for the outward trip, and the ship, will also carry a few Passengers but insufficient for her to be officially classified as a passenger ship. Woodwork is being limited to the barest necessities to enable the Board of Trad to have a clearance obtained. Apprentices are doing the work—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
