Colonel T. W. .tLiDonald, not having received the Reform Party’s support, has abandoned the idea of contesting the Patea by-election. He left to-day for the south.
A Labour meeting selected Mr. Lewie M'llvride. who was a candidate for the Wanganui seat at the general election, to contest the Palea seat. The nomination was eivlorsed by Mr. P. Fraser, president of the national executive of the Labour Party, who urns present. The campaign ia expected iii be vigorous. Mr. Fraser has promised that a team of Labour leaders will work the whole of the eleetorat.o
