Mr. T. O. Bishop, for six years inspector of mines for the West Coast, Nelson, and Marlborough districts, and latterly inspecting engineer of metalliferous mines for the Dominion, has resigned from the Government service to take an appointment as industrial adviser to the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners’ Association. Mr. Bishop’s duties will be. to act in an advising capacity to tho association on all technical matters, but. during the absence of Mr. AV. Pryor, Who is on leave, he will temporarily act, also, as secretary to the association. Mr. AV. Howard Booth has signified his intention of not ■ seeking re-election as Mayor at the forthcoming municipal elections in Carterton.

MrlUt has been appointed overseer for tho City Council at the Qrongorongo tunnel works. Mr. Barrance is a graduate of the Otago School of Mines. ,

Mr A. A. Winslow, United. States Con-sul-General for New Zealand, will leave Auckland for Sydney by the Maheno on April 13, en route to Cape r J.own, to take up the position of Consul-General in South Africa. His successor, Mr. David Wilber, who has been stationed at Genoa, is a passenger by tlie Tahiti, which is due at AVellington next week.

Mr. Herbert do Costa, a member of the Gisborne Borough Council, is visiting AVellington in connection with a. conference of life insurance agents. Mr. de Costa may stand for the Mayoralty of Gisborne next, month. Mr. J. AV. Shackleford, Mayor of Mount Eden (Auckland) is a visitor to Wellington.

Mr. G. Chirnside, of AA’erribee Park (Victoria), has had an enjoyable time fishing the waters of Rotorua and Taupo. He leaves again for Melbourne this week.

Mr. Guy D. Reed, who died this week at Te Aroha, was a son of the late Mr. R. K. Reed, of Palmerston North. The diceased was formerly employed in tho Bank of New- Zealand at Palmerston North, and later was manager of the bank's branch at Tolaga Bay. Lathmy he had been farming at Te Aroha. His widow is the daughter of Mr. C. Smith, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Palmerston North.

Mr. H. O. Browne, formerly of AVellington, and at one time private secretary to Sir Joseph AVard, is announced as a candidate for the Mayoralty oi AVanganui.

Messrs. H. Jowett, G. Findlay, and AV. B. Rainey were admitted as solicitors of the Supreme Court yesterday by His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout).
