BANKERS AT PLAY

One of the objects of the Bank Officers’ Guild is to foster a spirit of sociability among Its members. With that object in view, on St. Patrick's Bay, Wellington bankers cast dull care away, and held a most enjoyable picnic at I2p.y’» Day. In spite of the boisterous weather, about 400 participated in the outing, which it has now been decided will be an annual affair. All details of the picnic were arranged by the secretary (Mr. J. O'Sullivan), ably supported by a willing committee. An enjoyable sports programme was carried orft, and some good performances were nut up during tho day. One of the moat popular events was the elooement race- The race for married men was a thrilling affair for fully 20 yards, but thereafter many of the contestants discovered that a week’s training would probably have enabled them to carry on a bit longer. The events for ladies’ and children drew large entries, arid were .keenly contested. In the evening a dance held in the pavilion brought a happy and enjoyable day to a fitting close. The various, sports events resulted as follow:— 100 yards championship: Thomas, 1; M'dregor. 2; Henderson. 3. 100 yards (junior): Townoend, 1: Alison. 2; Turvey, 3 Ladies’ championship: Miss Bounifacle. 1; Miss Tracey, 2; Miss Gamble 3. Hack race: Merewether, 1; Page. 2; Macfarlane. 3. - Eadies’ sack race: Miss Keaney, 1: Miss Brown and Miss Martin (dead heat), 2. Thread-the-needle race: Conder and Miss Simpson. 1: Page and Miss Martin. 2. .Elopement race: Townsend and Miss Stubbs. 1; Whitehouse and Miss Allen 2. 100 yardr. handicap: Brinkman. 1; Jackson. 2; Alison. 3. Married men’s race: Henderson. 1: Brinkman, 2: Major. 3. Belay race: Wales, 1; Union'. 13. Tennis singles: Wyatt, 1: Tucker, 2.
