A LETTER FROM AUCKLAND. At Monday’s meeting of tho council of the Wellington Chamber of the following letter was received from the Good Roads Association, of Auckland; — „ , “The Minister for Public Works has definitely promised that the Bill dealing witli arterial roads will be circulated •luring the recess, so that an opportunity may lie given for full consideration of the views of all parties interested. This promise was made at the request of the association, and the Bill was promised early this year. We are writing the Minister asking him when the Bill will be available, recognising that pending receipt of the Government proposal we can do little more than mark time. It is important that tho provisions should be available as soon as possible to enable proper consideration to be given to same, and I would suggest that in accordance with the system of co-operation on which we have been acting with your association rou might also write asking the Minister to have the Bill circulated as soon as possible. When the Bill has been published I will get into touch with you with the object of having a conference before the next ordinary session ot Parliament, of all representative bodies concerned in order to ensure as far as possible that an acceptable, and satisfactory statute be passed dealing with this important matter at that ’csswn >fr W S- Wilson urged that the chamber should write to the Good Roads Association asking that body to, its activities to other parts of the Dominion. The repair of the road had cost .£4900' a vear. co that in ten year the road would cost JMS-OM-which meant fhnt £27 090 had been thrown away. The president (Mr. M. A. Corr) moved that the letter be rroeived He thought (hat it would be presumption on their nnrt to invite or even suggest to an association in another centre that it should extend its operations. They were all of mie mind as-4 the value ot good rondk. but tho matter of inv ’ hn ,' fth B € Roads Assertion to extend its activities to Wellington w n s not one for the chamS that the letter he received was carried on a show of hands.
