South Australia, was continued to-day. There was brilliant weather, and the wicket was still in excellent order. The attendance was small. Russell and Rhodes continued England’s first innings. The former immediately became aggressive, but Rhodes was cautious. He gave two possible chances with succeeding balls off Richardson, in the slips and to the bowler. Russell, scoring fast with faultless strokes, overhauled Rhodes, scoring 78 to Rhodes’s 42.

_ After lunch Russell, batting brilliantly, scored all round the wicket. When at 137 Rhodes should have been run. out, but the wicket-keeper failed to take the ball when Rhodes was yards away. The partnership was not dissolved until 397 was reached, when Russell, after completing hie second century, hit across a straight one from Murray. The partnership yielded 368, which approaches the worldfe record. A tally of 32S_jvas secured for the second wicket.
