COLONIAL OFFICE VOTE
THE NAURU AGREEMENT. (Rec. March 12, 5.5 p.m.) j London, March 11, Amery, explaining the supplementary Colonial Office vote of £45,000, stated that £30,000 was for the payment of stamp duty on the Nauru agreement. The balance was the British Government's share due to the AngloPersian Company, which is exploring for oil in Papua. Captain Ormesby Gore moved a reduction. He complained that the Government’s activities seemed to be confined to dyes, manures, and oils. Replying to Lord Robert Cecil, Colonel Amery said that the company only received out-of-pocket expenses. The Admiralty induced the .British and Australian Governments to prospect in Papua. The amendment was withdrawn and the vote passed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
