CARD SHARPERS IN LONDON
MSN LURED TO MAYFAIR FLAT TWO EX-AUSTRALIANB SENT TO PRISON By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. March 13, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 11. Robert M'Donald (aged 53) and James Ford (aged 23), who had been convicted in Australia, were sentenced at the Old Bailey' to two years’ imprisonment with hard la'bour. It was stated that they' lured men to a luxurious flat in Mayfair, rented by a Captain Biggar, who is said to be an Australian millionaire. There the men were fleeced, often of A2OO or £3OO nightly, playing banker, though the united bank balance of the card sharpers was only .£lO. Biggar, who was an Australian trooper with an artificial leg, was assisted by his pretty young wife. Biggar was,,, charged with th® others, but-absconded from bail. Ford claimed to be an Australian ranker with £3OOO a year. Detectives after the verdict had been announced stated that Ford recently obtained £lOOO from a man through a confidence trick.
