Another has been added to the list of mysterious accidents which have befallen ex-Gennan ships handed over to the Allies. It is reported from Washington that 1 the Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional certain provisions of the Lever law, by which profiteering is punishable. The Federal Government will be compelled to make restitution of 100,000 dollars in fines collected front merchants who have been convicted of charging high prices on various commodities, principally food and clothing.
A sensational tragedy is reported from Inverell, New South Wales. Mrs. Farrington was living with a man named Deane, when her husband arrived, and tried to induce his wife to return to him. Deane intervened, and drew a revolver, and a running fight with revolvers along the street between Farrington and Deane followed. Farrington was shot dead, and Deane was severely wounded in $Se mouth. A bystander was shot in a,leg, and others had narrow escapes from the flying bullets.
It is reported from Tokio that the residences of members of the Cabinet and Court dignitaries are strictly guarded as a result of the attack on Hachiro Saionji. The latter’s assailants are said to be members of a secret society, seven members of which, besides the six alrealy arrested, have been apprehended. A groceryman who attempted to submit a written petition to the Crown Prince while the latter was riding, was arrestedA man attempting to enter the residence of Prince Kanin of the Supreme Military Council, was seized. It is believed that four men who were believed to be the assassins of Baron Bingenshokti, have been arrested near Port -Arthur.
