The only criminal c-ase before the eeseion of the Supreme Court which opened hero to-day was one in which Richard William Couglan was charged with indecently assaulting young girls. Accused pleaded guilty, and it was submitted on his behalf that he was of weak intfellect. His Honour accepted the evidence as to the weak-mindedness of accused, and attributed his crime to this rather than to criminal purpose. Accused we« eon fenced to I&reo months' imprteonment.
