TIMARU HARBOUR BOARD
FINANCES SHOAA 7 A DEBIT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, February 25. At the. Timaru Harbour Board tine chairman reviewed the state of the finances. Last year’s operations, he said, resulted in a debit of £3O(K), and this year will probably see it doubled, unless an increase of revenue is somehow provided. The dues on exports would be less, an the meat stores were empty. Jt being hopeless to look to loan money, he suggested increasing all port charges. Other members opposed increasing the harbour rates. Dredging is costing over £BO6O a yea,, and as the channel is in good order, it was decided to lay up the: dredge. A special meeting will bo held on March 4 to discuss finance.
