ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER APPOINTED. The appointment of Mr. P. D. N. Verschaffelt to the position of Assistant Public Service Commissioner in succession to Mr. I l ’. V. Frazer has been approved by Cabinet. Mr. Verschaffelt at present, occupies the position of Chief Accountant, Head Oflice,. Public Trust Office, Wellington, which appointment he has held since October 31, 1919. Mr. Verschaffelt first entered tlie Public Service as an officer of the Lands and Survey- Department on January 1, 1904. He was transferred to the office of the Public Service Commissioner on February- 1, 1913, and became Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner on January 1, 1915. He held this position until his promotion, on May 1, 1919, to the Public Trust Office as Controller, Wills, Trusts, and Agencies Division.. Mr. Verschaffelt is an officer who has an intimate knowledge of the Public Service. The new Assistant Commissioner wa» born at Napier. He passed the Fellowship Examination of the Incorporated Society of Accountants in :908, and took his degree in Law in "1919, being admitted as a. barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court in that year.
