RAILWAY CONGESTION
SHORTAGE OF TRUCKS A COMPLAINT FROM DANNEVIRkE Serious congestion of fat stock has been occurring lately in tho Dannevirke district and neighbouring districts owing to shortage of railway trucks. The attention of this Minister of Railways (Mr. Massey) was drawn to this diffiI •- culty yesterday by Mr. A. M'Nicol, M.F., and Mr. H. M. Campbell, M.P., ■■ Who urged that the delay in the trans\port of fat stock was a very grave matter for the farmers. Mr. M'Nicol mentioned that at tho beginning of the week I there were about 6000 fat sheep in tho yards' at Dannevirke, while 8000 more Wore on the roads between Ttannevirke and the coast. Complaint had been made that the Railway Department had given faulty informaihon to farmers and dealers. With the result that stock had . been brought to the railway in the expectation of trucks being there, Tho Prime Minister promised to have inquiries made. Later, the members interviewed the General Manager of Railways and discussed the difficulty with him. Mr. M'Villy said that the shortage of trucks ■Was a trouble that the Department could not overcome quickly, but he promised to see what could be done. to .relieve the congestion in the districts mentioned.
