ENTERTAINMENTS

KING’S THEATRE. “Eyes of Youth,” the big Equity special, starring Clara Kimball Young, supported by her own company, is a film version of Max Marcin’s famous stage success. The visualisation of the spiritual experiences of a young girl at the threshold of life, by means of the crystal in which she is allowed to see the future and choose her path, is only one aspect of the story that is grippingly unfolded in a series of magnificentlyproduced scenes. Incidentally it?, is th« best work that Miss Young has ever done in picture. Madame Hayward again delighted the large audience with “Caller Herrin’” and “Scenes That Are Brightest,” having to respond to a hearty recall with “Sweet Spirit, Hear My Prayer." A full orchestral matinee will be held this afternoon. EMPRESS THEATRE. Zena Keefe is starred in “One Hour,” the sequel to Elinor Glyn’s “Three Weeks,” at the Empress Theatre. The tragic love story of the princess who faces sacrifice of a great love on the altar of international politics, proves a most moving drama. The Canadian, winter woodland scenes are a feature of the film. Good supports include an interesting travelogue. EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. “King Spruce” is showing at Everybody’s Theatre. Mitchell Lewis is the star of the picture version of Holman Day’s story of tho Maine forests, and does work of much power and conviction, his performance ranking with his achievement in "The Barrier.'' “Drink Hearty,” .a Pathe comedy, starring “Snub” Pollard, is amusing. THE N.Z. “DIGGERS..” "Brightness, freshness, and originalityare the prominent characteristics of the N.Z. ‘Diggers’ show, which is the best combination of its kind ever seen here.” Thus writes the Adelaide “Advertiser. The “Diggers" have caused fun and laughter wherever -they have appeared, and their entertainments are far above tho average. The excellent fare provided by this versa.'lilo combination carries a delightful audience through a medley of novelty designed to banish care and raise the drooping spirits. The special • menu for Saturday evening s feast of fun contains entirely new items and which have caused more than favourable comment in the various towns visited. The music and comedy, which go to make up most of the programme, both reach a very high standard. The “Diggers” have a splendid orchestra, also several exceptionally fine voices, and their experience now is that they have little left to learn in the arts of the stage. The “Diggers” are a happy band of entertainers in every sense of flhc word, and their entertainment is original and novel. Included in the company are Stan Lawson, he misleading lady.” Tnno Fama JcoiiM’dian and producer), Frank Perkins (baritone) Gus 'Dawson (ragtime exponent ond dancer), Donald Stuart (comedian), Don Wallace (character vocalisfl. Colin Cameron (Ivric (tenor), Len Walker (dancer and light comedian). The 7?’^® rs orchestra of ten performers will be a snecial feature of the enterjninment. The box plane are at the Bristol. GRAND OPERA HOUSE. “The Prince Chap” will be screened at the Grand Opera House for the last time to-night. _______
