SWIMMING
LADY CHAMPION’S VISIT. Advice was received by the secretary of the Wellington Swimming Centre yesterday that Miss G Shand, the New Zealand lady swimming champion, had definitely decided to be present at the carnival to bo held at Te Aro Baths on March 5. During the Dominion championships, Miss Shand broke the world’s record for 410yds., and, in view of this, the local secretary (Mr. N. R. Stone) made n suggestion through the New Zealand Swimming Council, that during her visit to Wellington lhe champion might make an effort to beat the. 100yds. world’s record. , To this the secretary of the N.Z.A.S.AI has replied that. Miss Shand wishes to swim oyer 220yds.— a distance not provided for in New Zealand ladies’ championships. This championship will bp set up, and the champion will mal6 an effort to cover the distance in wotldls record time. In addition, Miss Shand will compete in a 50yds. invitation race, and will also give an exhibition of swimming. She will T>? accompanied in the water by Miss K. Bristed, diving champion, who will also give a diving exhibition, and will probably compete in a handicap event. G. 1.0. CLUB. The G.P.O. j! mateur Swimming Club held the second event for the Rhodes Bowl competition on Saturday, at the Te Aro Baths, the event being the 100yds. breast stroke handicap. The results were as follow:—IT. B. Simmons, 1; J. H. Cowdell, 2; IT. Winter. 3. Also started: A. T. Franks, A. J. Teague, R. C. Smith, H. C. Miller Time, 93 l-ssec. - Messrs. J. A. Humphrey and W P. Halfstonge acted as judges, and Mr. C. Gamble officiated as starter. The points for the bowl now are:—J. I. M. Hill. 5; H. B. Simmons, 5; N. J. H. Winter, 4; J. H. Cowdell, 3; S. Hall, 1.
