CLOSING HOUR FOR SHOPS

parliament to reconsider MATTER.

By Telegraph.--Press Association. Christchurch, February 14. A protest against tho provision in last session’s Act closing small suburban shops at six o’clock was made by a deputation of shopkeepers to the Prime Minister to-day. In replying, Mr. Massey said that he was not m charge of ‘he Bill in tho House or particularly interested in it. It went to the Labour Bills Committee, and Sir William • Hornes told him that only the usual ev> dence was taken, and that the Bill would go through flying. It was not so easy, however, to get rid of Ihe hardship inflicted. It could not be done in the short session of March if there was any opposition to it. Ho was not opposed to giving Parliament an opportunity to go back'on tho Act, but there had been absolutely no opposition to the clause when it went through. He would give Parliament the opportunity, but he would leave it to Parliament.
