NEW APPOINTMENT NOT YET MADE The name of Mr. W. Downio Stewart member for Dunedin West, has been mentioned frequently of late in connection with the vacancy in the Cabinet caused by the departure for England of Sir William Ilerries. Mr. Dowme Stewart is a keen thinker and an effective debater, and he has shown during recent sessions that the injury he sustained on active service does not prevent to. being a valuable member of the House of Representatives. n . The Primo Minister so far has given no definite indication of his intentions in the matter of the appointment. The Ministry as at present constituted, omiting Dr. Pomare (Minister representing the Native race) and Sir William Hemes (who remains a member of the 1 e without portfolio), consists of five North Island Ministers and tour South. Lslanrt Ministers. The Ministers from the North Istod hre:-Ylr. Massey. Sir Fr-cis Bell, Mr. Guthrie, Mr. Coates, and Air. Parr, and the Ministers from the South Island arc ._Sir Heaton Rhodes, Mr. Loe, MrNosworthy, and Mr. Anderson. 9he addition of another southern man to the Ministry would give the islands «iual representation as far as • * “paWm” Ministers are conceimeJ, with Dr, Pomare to turn the balance m favour of the north.
