INFECTIOUS DISEASES
LAST WEEK’S FIGURES FURTHER CASES OF INFANTILE PARALYSIS Eight additional cases ,<>f infantile paralysis were notified to the district health office during the past week, bringing the total number of notifications (for a little under four - weeks) up to 19. The latest cases were reported from Halcombe (1), Feilding (1), Palmerston North (1). Paraparaumu (1), Petone (1), Nai Nai (2), and Blenheim (1), and the ages of the victims range from two years to seven. During ihe week ended noon yesterday, 44 cases of infectious diseases were reported in the district, an increase of 19 compared with the previous week. Scarlet fever and diphtheria arc prevalent just now throughout the distinct, and this has been largely responsible for the increase in the figures. Hospital districts wilicli reported eases of infectious diseases during the week were: —YVaipawa; Diphtheria, 1. Palmerston North: Diphtheria, G; infantile paralysis, 3. Wellington: Scarlet fever, 3; diphtheria, 4; enteric fever, 1; tuberculosis, 1; infantile paralysis, 4; erysipelas, 1; pneumonia, 1; chicken-pox, 1; lethargic encephalitis, 1. Wairarapa: Scarlet fever, fi; diphtheria, 4; tuberculosis, 1. Wairau: Infantile paralysis, 1. Nelson: Scarlet fever, 1: diphtlheria, 2; enteric fever, 1; tuberculosis, 1.
