STORKS DEPARTMENT PICNIC
Favoured with glorious weather the annual picnic of the Stores Department of the New Zealand Railways, which was held at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Saturday, proved one of the most successful yet held. A capable committee, cf which Mr. W. Wilson was secretary, was responsible for the excellent arrangements, and the sports events, which were dispatched well to time, were a feature of the outing. Results of the various races were as follow: — Stores’ 100yds. handicap: Bold, 1; Clapham, 2; Al’Dougall, 3. Married ladies’ race (employees’ wives): Mrs. Gregory, 1; Airs. Clapham, 2; Mrs. Hailwood, 3. Single ladies’ race (over 18 years): Miss Buekley, 1; Miss Keatings, 2. Ladies’ race (14 to 18 years): Miss Chesterman, 1; Miss Cates, 2; Miss Howe, 3. Married ladies’ race (open): Mrs. Ryan, 1; All’s. Clapham, 2; Airs. Keating, 3. Sack race: J. Ryan, 1; Gremmell, 2; Millward, 3. Three-legged race: Miss Howe and • Power, 1; Aliss Cates and Ryan, 2. Relay race: Pel one Store team. Egg and spoon race (ladies): Miss Buckley, 1; Alias Keating, 2. Scramble race: J. Power, 1; Alillward, 2. Single ladies’ consolation race: Aliss Phillips, 1; Alias Knight, 2; Miss Benfield, 3. Elopement race: Miss Tolmey and Power, 1; Miss Chesterman and Richardson, 2. Aten’s consolation race: Patterson, 1; Kutner, 2; Phillips, 3. Alnrried ladies’ consolation race: Mrs. Knight, 1; Airs. Phillips, 2; Mrs. Fear, 3. Egg and spoon (men): Clapham, 1; Alillward, 2. The Petone Store won the Baxter Cup presented by the Comptroller of Stores for the mod points.
