NO ADDITIONAL SURVEILLANCE.

It has been officially denied that Americans in Japan have been placed, under additional surveillance. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
[A message published on Saturday stated that the police were considering plans for more effectively watching Americans residing and travelling in Japan. The Japanese said they had evidence that some Americans who professed to be tourists or business men were really focusing their attention on military matters and acting in co-opera-tion with other Americans long resident in Japan.]
SHOOTING OF AMERICAN OFFICER(Rec. January 30, 5.5 p.m.) Tokio, January 29.
Japan’s answer to the United States* Note concerning the killing of an American officer at Vladivostok has been forwarded to Washington. It is learned that the Note does not discuss the Japanese occupation of Siberia, bnt merely reiterates the Government’s regret over the shooting, and outlines the measures taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.—Aus.-N.Z.
