The Senate Foreign Relations Committee * amended and approved Senator Borah’s disarmament resolution, which now proposes the prompt negotiation of a treaty between the United States, Britain and Japan, by which the Governments will effect arrangements for reducing the naval programmes within the course of the next five years.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. UTILITY OFBIG SHIPS QUESTIONS FOR IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. (Rec. January 21, 9.25 p.m.) London, January 21. The "Daily Mirror” states that the suh-cximmittee of Imperial Defence continues to discuss the question of big warships, but whatever decision is reached the naval programme will be submitted to the Imperial Conference. The paper adds "If Australia wants big ships in;the Pacific, perhaps she will be prepared to pay for them.” ■ The "Morning Post” says it. is untrue that any decision has been reached as regards the utility of big vessels.—Aus.N.Z.
