IN CONFERENCE WITH DEPARTMENTAL OFFICERS. Representatives of the- railway firemen. who issued a strike notice early. in the week, conferred yesterday with officers of the Railway Department. The men have not abated their demand" for extra time and for an additional 2b. a day while inferior coal is being used, but it'is likely that a settlement will l>e arranged, and that the threat-' ened stoppage of work at midnight on. Sunday will not occur. The position will be further considered by the Department to-day, and nn official announcement regarding the negotiations has yet been made. i
