WAIRARAPA NOTES
It is understood that Mastorton is to be favoured with a visit from the Australian cricket team which is to tour the Dominion. The sum of Al5O is required as a guarantee to cover the expenses of the team. Mr. F. Maunsell has contributed <£3s, and others have also subscribed liberally, but a considerable amount is yet required to complete the guarantee.. A subscription list has been opened. Mr. G. R. M'Kellar has been elected president of the Wairarapa. 'Soldier*’ Club in place of Mr. J. A. Cowles, who has resigned. Mr. R. F. R. Beetham has been appointed vice-president, and Mr. H. M. Boddington hon secretary and treasurer. At the annual meeting of the club on Monday night, Mr. A. P. Whatman contributed the sum of -£2<M to wipe out a deficit on the year’s working. He stated that ho intended to approach certain people who had tho welfare of tho club at heart, and he hoped that as a result the club would be placed on a satisfactory financial footing. A resolution was passed congratulating Dr Ernest Boxer on his being honoured with the C.M.G.
Two designs are now being considered for the Masterton Soldiers’ Memorial, and a decision will be made shortly. The major portion of tho £2OOO required has boon collected.
A cricket pitch has already been prepared nt the Cameron and 1 Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Park, and it is expected that the first match to lie played on it will take place on Anniversary Day
