Winston Churchill, who is holidaymaking in France, has been offered the Chief Secretaryship of the Colonies. Nothing is officially known, although the newspapers assert that Mi*. Churchill has accepted the post.—Aus.-N.Z. Viable Assn. LONDON PRESS COMMENTS ACCEPTANCE OF OFFICE REPORTED (Rec. January 18, 9.10 p.m.) London, January 18. The newspapers state definitely that Mr. Churchill has accepted the Colonial Office, though an official announcement may be delayed for a few days. The "Daily News” protests against the appointment as essentially mischievous. Mr. Churchill is reported to have said that he would not wield less authority than his predecessors. The newspaper interprets this to mean that the Colonial Office will continue to transact dominion business and also undertake new business in connection with the mandates. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable .Assn.
