JOY RIDE IN A DOCTOR’S CAR

In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, ’before Mr. F. K- Hunt, S.M., Andrew Bezzant, alias Deer, alias Jack Anderson, was charged that on December 2 at Wellington, he stole a bicycle valued at £l- - the property of Francis G. Millnian; he was also charged that on December 4 he unlawfully and without colour ot right, but not so as to be guilty ot theft within the meaning of the Crimes Act 1908 took and used a motor-car, tne property of Dr. H. J. M'Leau. Bezzant pleaded guilty to both charges. ChiefDetective Ward said that the O'.ner of the bicycle left the machine near the Kelburn tram office, and it was taken b> Bezzant and sold to a second-hand dealer for £2 10s. Two days later accused took Dr M'Lean’s motor-car from Eoulcoct Street and drove it to Featherston, where he abandoned it. He then went to I ; Imerston North, where he was e n ested and convicted on another charge and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. Un the charge of stealing the bicycle accused was sentenced to an additional months imprisonment, and on the other charge he was convicted and discharged. Catherine Malkin pleaded guilty to being an incorrigible rogue, in that she possessed insufficient lawful means of support. Sub-Inspector AVillis said that the woman was found sleeping out in Oriental Bay. There were 33 previous convictions against her, and in May last she was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
