LOWER HUTT COURT
A NUMBER OF MOTORISTS FINED. The monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Messrs. E. Page, S.M., and J. Pearce, J.P., presiding, Richard Henry Smith, alias Edwards, who pleaded guilty to stealing luggage, bedding,'etc., to the total value of .£2O, wa|; convicted and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. On a charge of procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, accused was convicteel and discharged. For failing to comply with the conditions of his prohibition order, Eric Casey was fined 305., with costs 7s. For exceeding the motor-car speed limit, the following were each fined XI, with costs 18s. 6d.C. Abbott, W. B. Anderson, Peter Annan, jun., 11. F. Brittain, C. Carbery, AV. J. Carrig, F. Chapman, T. Connelly (two charges), A. Peene, G. C. Cooper, AV. Crighton, i D. Dalton, J. Fleming, H. Gi'bson, Knox Gilmer, G. Glenn, A. Gollins, C. Gower, W. Hume, M. Jones, P. R. Kent, C. AV. Mack, C. J. Masters, A. M'Kenzie, W, S. Park. A. C. Pearce, H. Rawson, H. A. Smith, W. G. Stead, G. Stevenson, and G. Stott. A motor cyclist, C. E. Mullis, who also exceeded the speed limit, was fined a similar amount. A case against S. G. Nathan was dismissed. N. Gorringc was fined 10s., with costs 75., for riding a bicycle on the footpath. For failing to provide lights after sunset, H. O’Connell was fined 10s., with 7s. costs, and E. Wilson, 55., with 7s. costs. E. Purdie was convicted and ordered to pay costs,-75., only. For allowing stock to wander the following were fined as stated: —A. Hill and G. Hunt, each XI. with costs 75.; C. Fisk and F. Foster, each 155., with costs 75.; E. August, AV. Clifford, and AV. Strachan, each 10s.. with costs 75.; S. Peck, 55., with costs 7s. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following civil actions:— Eliza Downes v. T. Rae, .£lO 10s., costs X2 Ils.; Isabel Farrow v. Mrs Lawrence Dillon, .£l5, costs X2 175.; Hutt Meat Co. v. Terence Short, XI Is. 3d., costs Bs. On a judgment summons, L. H. Coe was ordered to pay W. Austin X 3 in monthly instalments of XI, the first payment to be made one month hence, rhe default was fixed at seven days’ imprisonment. *
