Cable Assn. fA message from New York published on Monday stated: —The first word concerning indescribable hardships suffered by three naval 'airmen who left New York in a baloon on December 13 has just been revealed in a letter received by the airmen’s wives. The letter states that the airmen were driven by a gale, and landed at Moose factory, James Bay, on December 21, with little clothing, every possession being thrown out of the balloon in order to keep it up. Winds drove the machine tb the far north, the ..airmen being terribly distressed by hun'ger and cold. One of them asked his comrades to kill and eat him and rescue themselves. Finally, hearing a dog bark, they landed in a wilderness, where Indian trappers rescued them, and the first news of their whereabouts was brought! by Indian runners over snowcovered trails to Cochran, and thence telegraphed to civilisation.]
