Sir Elliot Johnson, M.H.IL acting under medical advice, is proceeding to New Zealand at the month-end for the benefit of his health (says vhe Sydney "Sun"). It is some year? since the Speaker has had a holiday. The death of T.tuly Johnson was a heavy blow to Sir Idlibfc and his only daughter. Tlie tipciiker hopes to retflrn about the' middle of February.
A Press Association telegram from Dunedin stales that the Presbyterian Synod of Otago has concurred with the Church .Board of Property in the appointment of Professor Herberti Ramsay, M.A., as Professor of English Language and Literature at Otago University. Professor Raulsay is aged 31, anil is at present Assistant-Professor in Wwt Australia. He has just been appointed -hihd of the department there. He is a graduate of St. Andrew's, Aberdeen, and is a l/ii-st Class in classics.

Mildenhall, of the Miramar Borough Council's stall', will he pleased to hear that after twelve weeks in the hospital, he has been able lo leave thai: institution, and is getting about on crutches. Some three months ago he sustained a fracturcd leg through a motor-bicrcle accident on , Broadway, Miramar.
