REMITS VOIR CONFERENCE. The annual meeting .of the Now Zealand Women Teachers' Association will bo opened at the Pioneer Club Booms on' Thursday. The agenda paper contains in all twenty-four remits covering a wide rango of subjects, among tho more important being the following:— That in order to secure a solid foundation for primary education, it is desirable that infant departments of all higher grade primary schools be staffed at least as-liberally as would be the case if they were separate schools, and that this staffing bo as in tho case of side schools without prejudice to tho staffing of each school as a whole i,Auckland); that staffing similar to that of separate infant schools bo provided for the infant departments of mixed schools (Wellington); thnt this association reaffirms tho principle that the inspectorn to should consisto of both men and women (.Canterbury); that in place of the present inadequate £5 grant for Montessori material, the Department should manufacture such Montrcsori apparatus as suits New Zealand conditions, and supply it to all infant schools recommended by the inspectors (Wellington); that in all now infant school buildings, provision should bo made for assembly halls, separate cloak rooms, staff aud lunch rooms, mid windows in keeping with modern Weals for infant teaching (Wellington); Unit .is the light education of the adolosc.'iit is tho surest way to a strong and tranquil national life, the N.Z.WT.A. urges tho Government to establish as soon as possible continuation classes till tho ago of 13 for young people who leave school at 14 or 15 (Wellington); that no child under 12 years of age be employed in street trading, and no child under U bo employed nftor 7 p.m., or before 8 a.m, and that the hours of work on school days shall not exceed two hours (Wellington); that this association urges that the preliminary medical examination be of a more searching nature (Auckland); that this association strongly disapproves of tho introduction of differentiation in tho salaries of young teachers (Wellington); that in. preference to the teaching of sex hygicno in primary schools, _ the Department ha urged to prepare suitable pamphlets for distribution among parents (Wellington); that the Act be amended so that the compulsory retiring age of women teachers bo uniform through- . out the Dominion (Otago); that women teaeliers with denrtmla.nts be granted the' married assistants' allowance of .£4O (Wellington); that the principle of limitation of the size of classes .to M be strongly reaffirmed iTlawkes Bay).
