NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Sir,—A year ago Volume lof the Offi- \ cial History of New Zealand's effort-in the Great War was published by the' Government. It met with a ready sale and is now out of print. Since then we have been looking for the .other volumes *■ promised'.by the Government. It has been stated that volume 2, "Tho New ■ 'Zealanders in Franco," volume 3, "The : New Zealanders in Palestine," volume 4.' 1 "The War Effort of New Zealand," are ready for the printer. In fact we know | that vo'luma .3 is already printed. Why are the. public deprived of the opportun- ' ity of possessing those records? If the ' Government have forgotten tho services ' rendered by our men in the war the pub. ' lie have not, and they are anxious to possess "these popular histories of New 1 Zealand's share in tho. Great War, , which are designed to present to the ; people of New Zoalnnd tho inspiring record of tha work of our sons and daugh- ( ters overseas." This is the preface to j volume 1, written by Sir James Allen, who conceived the histories, and who was ' then the Minister of Defence. It is un- . fortunate for New Zealnnders that the. energy which Sir .Tames threw into all I hia work has not been .visible since he left us,—l am, etc., ANZAC.
