The advance was temporarily, checked at Susack by tho legionaries blowing up a bridge after three hours' heavy fighting. The losses on both sides are reported to bo heavy. (Rec. December 28, 10.5 p.m.) Rome, December 28. . The troops of General Ferraro attacked the outskirts of Fiume on Christmas eve.' D'Annunzio ordered that all tho woods encircling the city should be burned. Lamentablo destruction ensued, including a number of public buildings. Later field guns and armoured cars joined in the .battle. Alpini, moving from Castrano, broke.D'Aiinunxio's left wing and entered Fiume, where-, they occupied Dannbiußyard.. The regulars then found themselves under the fire of hundreds of machine-guns. There wero many casualties on both 6ides. Motor lorries laden' wih wounded Were arriving at Coho.
