— *—-- — MONTHLY MEETING OP COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ' Carterton, December 28.' At the monthly meeting of the Waira. Tapa 'Soufii County Council, at Carterton, Councillor T. V. Moore ipresided. The treasurer's statement showed a credit balance of „1583 Is. Id. on the general account. Receipts since, the previous meeting totalled .£7608 lis. .9d., which included" JUS&I 10s. for general rates, and .£439 13s. lid. special rates. ' Accounts amounting to ,£3617 6s. Bd. were passed for payment.
The Under-Secretary of Public Works wrote; stating that a proclamation had ■been issued taking land under the Pub. lie Works Act for the purpose of a rond in Block XII, Tiffin survey district. It was also inuimated that land hid been taken for a gravel-pit in Block 11, Tiffin •urvey district.
The council accepted the proposal to pay £iS per annum into the Consolidated Fund.towards the salaiy 'of a qualified inspector of health.
It was re-solved to donaife J3lO to tho Wairarapa Automobile Association, as : a contribution ,to the cost'of fencing' ou the Rimutaka Hill Road; , • ' 'The Deller Estate wa9 granted permission, to tap' a wtiii-r-race near Rutland Road, for use at a. slaughterhouse, the work to be carried out to tho satisfaction of the overseer.
Arising out of the overseer's report, it was decided to put in a small groyne at Victoria Road, and to erect a motor bridge over Waitangi Creek. Tho patching of Flat Point Road was left in the hands of Councillors Foreman and Cameron. The overseer was authorised' ito dump crushed metal at Wyett's and Compton's pits on Main Road north. It was also decided to place a notice on a Gladstone Bridge, ■ intimating that iiV was unsafe for over four tons. Bad points are to be attended to on Longbush Road when time permits. It was resolved that tibe council visit the Huangarua Bridge, where, it is stated, the river is making inroads info the approach.
Tenders are to be called for metalling the Kanwhata and Driscol Rood 9. It was decided to .wri-.fc to the telegraph engineer, asking that four telephono posts on Hughes Road ho put back. to'oJiablo the road to be widened. Mr. A. Smith was appointed driver of the new read roller.
