Allan has retired from the chairmanship of trustees for tho Homo for tlio Aged Needy, anil Mr. George Pethcrick has been elected lo occupy the position until the ,annual meeting of subscribers April ol next year. A number of transfers and promotions ill the Lands and Deeds Department have been announced. Sir. P. Dalrymple, of Duuedin, Ibecomes deputy-registrar of deeds and assistant land registrar at Christcliurch; Miss F. M. M'Millan, of Auckland, takes a similar office at Dunedin; Mr. A. H. Fletcher, of Christchurch, becomes second-assistant laud registrar afAuckland; Mr. AV. N. Haire, of Napier, eomes to Wellington as deputyregistrar of deeds and second-assistant land registrar; Mr. C. •L. Harvey, of Auckland, goes to Napier as deputyregistrar of deeds and assistant land registrar; and Mr. G. 11. Seddon, of "Wellington, becomes fourth assistant land registrar at Auckland.

The Prime Minister hns intimated his intention of witnessing the performance of "The Man From Toronto" at the Grand Opera House this evening. Mr. Matthews, director of tho Feild-' ing- Technical .School for the past seven years, has been appointed headmaster of the Patea District High School. Before the Feilding institution closed for the holidays Mr. and Mrs. Matthews wm entertained by the committee, staff, and students and were tho recipients of valuable silverware as a mark of esteem. ifr. Dewar, representative of t.ho Now Zealaivl Government Tourist Dopattment in Queensland, lias arrived from Sydney, accompanied by Mrs. Dowar and daughters. Mr. A. W. Stevens, slationmaster at Jtotorua for several years, who was in tho Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company at Wellington when tho Government acciuired the company's line and plant, etc.. has been transferred to Eangiora.
