SCHOOL DENTISTRY

(To tho Editor.)

Sir-Since I find your journal to bo Hio most popular In every portion of tins Dominion, then I big for space ini its columns to make a. suggestion to our Government, which I claim would he far more effective, far more fair and just to (he community as a whole than what they now propose. My good father always taußht us to nevfcr raise an objection to anything unless wo wero prepared to oiler something better. Well, Sir mv excuse for writing upon the above subject is that I ha-te something bettor to plt'cr, viz., that-a properly qualified dentist bo employed as inspector of school children s teeth, not to operate, but merely to inspect: that he hand in his report to tnS school committee, mentioning the names of all those whoso teeth require attention; that tho secretary then hand a note to each child mentioned by the inspector, this note to 'be given to their father so saving postage. This note informs tr.« parent of the inspector's report and requiring him te have tho child's teeth attended to at once by any proper!/ qualified dentist. In the event of the parent i"norine this notion. Mid not hiving the child attended to within seven days, he is to he fined three times the amount of the dentist's fee for the necessary work. This fino to be paid every weeE that tho child remains unattended to. By this method the paints arc compelled to do their duty to their children, and the already over-taxed taxpayer is saved the exponas of paving for tho parent's responsibilities. It Seems to me, Sir, that our Government, urged on by greedy and covetous Labour members, is bent upon bringing the Dominion and every taxpayer in it to utter ruin, and irretrievably banktujifcpy, by spoon-feeding the worat i elements in -the community.—l am, etc.,- - A POOK MAN WHO PAT 3 HIS WAV.
