Air. .T. C. ■Williamson lias tan Appointed secretary to the Miramar Golf Club, in succession to the late Mr. P. P. Webb. Opportunity was taken at last night's gathering of representatives of amaifcur sports bodies to make a presentation to Mr. B. A. Guise, manager of tho New Zealand team of ainatour boxers who recently competed at the championship meeting in Brisbane. The presentation was made by Mr. A. A. Manyatt, chairman of tho Olympic Council, on behalf of the members of the team, in appreciation of Mr. Guiso's treatment of them while on tour. The member* of the team wore in turn presonted with their Australasian medals and New Zealand championship certificatbs. As a token of the oateeniin which he is held by the staff. Mr. W. H. Olson, first assistant at tho Enstorn Hutt School was .yesterday made the recipient of a silver cake dish. In makinjr the presentation Mr. A. M'Bain, the headmaster, referred to Mr. Olson's popularity in tho school, and to his untiring efforts in the direction of promoting outdoor sport, a work in which ha had rendorcd valuable assistance during the past six years, Tloference to the death of Mr. G. Frost, for many years a, member of the Technical College Board, and latterly its chairman, was made by the director (Dr. Howell) yesterday at. the annual prize-giving. In tho course of his report lie said: "Mr. Frost was not only a great friend of the school, hut he was a personal friend of all who had tho privilege of solving under him, and was most kindly and considerate in all his relationships with them. He did valuable work as a ohairman, and had the gratification of helping \o secure jfor the college a site worthy of its great future. George Mackay, head prefect of Wellington College, is this year's winner of thio Wydille Kutherfurd memorial prisw of J520, given by Mrs. J. Ruthorfurd, formerly of tho Wairarapa, whose 6on, an old Wellington College boy, was killed in Persia during tho war. The prije is awarded, to tho best (ill-round boy in the college— classwork, outside work, an.d games all boing considered, with special weight as to charac-tier. Wydille llutherfurd was one of the boys who niado his mark while at tho college. He was a young man of a fine type, and tho news of his death was genuinely regretted' by all who knew lum.
Mr. F. Mace, builder and contractor, is again rather soriously indisposed.
Mr. F. Hem pieman, -who has been appointed hoadmasifer of the Seatoun School, after occupying the position of first assistant at Brooklyn for many years, was cntortained by the staff and committee of the latter school on Wednesday evening. During iJie evening he recoived tokens of esteem from his fol-low-teacliers arid the committee.
Yestorday morning the pupils of tho primary and secondary departments of the Pc'tone District High School fore gathered for tho purpose of expressing their appreciation of the services rendered them by their teachers. The headmaster, Mr. C. N. Haslam, was the recipient of a silver-mounted walking stick and several pipes, the sports master, Mr. Findlayson, recoived a wallet; Mr. King, a sot of silver-mounted hair brushes; and Miss Stanton a honey jar. Mrs, Deham and Sir. .7. H. Lynskey, of the secondary deportment, also received- presents.
