Interesting experiments havo recently been made by a British Government Committee on tho improvement of the gauge used on miners' safety lamps. Tho two points considered were safety and the improvement in tho light transmitted by tho gaugo. Nearly forty different kinds of gauges wero testa!, iirst in discs and then in tho ehapo adopted in tlie lamps themselves.
