COMMUNITY SERVICE
WORK OF THE Y.M.C.A
"Probably duo to tlio impetus given tho Y.M'.C.A. during tho war, the association is' being called upon more and nioro to Tender community service, statfcs tho annual report of tho Y.M.C.A. adopted at last nighfs meeting of tho organisation. Scarcely a week passes without some department of the association being called upon to assist in work of a community nature, mid, whorcver possible, the services of the association have been freely given. Then, tlio building itself is probablv tho greatest community centre in Jhe city. Most of the sports clubs of the city hold meetings and other functions regularly in our rooms. the rifle range is used practically every night by the rifle clubs of the cily. The New i Zealand Club luncheons aro held in the association's rooms, as well as numerous other luncheons arranged at tho request of different organisations. More and nioro the churches and', other Christian organisations arc recognising the association as a common meeting-pkeo for special functions, and wo are g'.a.d to cooperate wherever possible. Assistance is also given to the large number of immigrants who are .now arriving in this country. A largo number of these men bear letters of introduction from the Red Trianglo Hospitality League in England, and we do our utmost to assist in getting these men settled, both by securing employment and general advice. During the busy months of Hie year every inch of space of our building is used' to ilie utmost—in fact, Unbuilding is frequently too small to cope with the ever-increasing demands: on our spaco and facilities." • ,
