' BOROUGH,COUNCIL MEETS. The Petone Borough Council, met last nighty the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding. There were also present: Councillors J. Kyle, W. Hay, J. Churchotfse, D.' S. Bedingfield,' E. Tovey, W. Cox, G. Cook, and C. P. Brockclbank. A communication was received from Messrs. Young, Neave, and Courtenay, acting on behalf of a. Lower Hutt :clicnt. in connection with tho; account forwarded hiip for tho cost of repairing a lamp ptandard damaged' by his motor-car at tho railway crossing, Petone, in, which it was stated that the client was under no liability to make any payment to the council in the matter. On tho contrary, continued, the writers, he was entitled to claim..from tl*e council for the damage dona, to bis <;ar. The .exact.-state-ment-.of the cost of the-repairs "to the car would be forwarded to the council latter.—The Town' Clerk .reported ■! that he had referred the matter to the borough solicitor .to recover the amount claimed. -.
