ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS CONSECRATED

An event-unique in the history of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand was celebrated at St. Joseph's Cathedral yesterday, when two priests were formally consecrated to tho Hierarchy. These were tho Rev. Dr. Whyte, Bishop of Dunedin. and Father Liston, Coadjutor BishoD of Auckland. There, was a brilliant array of church dignitaries, and the cathedral was thronged. The consecration was performed by Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington (Metropolitan), assisted by Dr. Carroll, Bishop of Lismore (New South Wales), and Dr. Cleary, Bishop of Auckland. Also present in the Sanctuary were Dr. O'Shca, Coadjutor Archbishop of Wellington, Dr. Brodie, Bishop of Christchurch, and other clergy. The sormon was preached by Archbishop O'Shea. In the evening the newly-consecrated Bishop of Dunedin presided on the throne, and an address of welcome was presented to Km.
