RIFLE SHOOTING

GROUP MEETING CONCLUDES

SENIOR CADET CHAMPIONSHIP

TERRITORIAL AND RIFLE CLUB MATCHES

The annual prize mooting of the No. 5 Area Group Rifle Association was Brought to a successful conclusion at Trentham on' Saturday. Weather conditions were propitious, but, although there was not a great deal of wind, the gentle north-westerly zephyrs contained just enough "trickiness" in them to'make the shooting a littlo difficult for tho Senior Cadots at tflio 200 yds. rnngo. The day's programme comprised the firing of the Senior Cadets Championship (100 and 200 yards), which was opon to tho highest fifty scorers in the four matches completed the previous Saturday, and a series of matches for Territorials and members of rifle clubs. During tho.day a visit ti the range-was paid by Colonel C. W. Melvill (Officer Commanding the District), Colonel R. St. J. Becre (ActingCoast Defonce Commandor), and Mr. G. Mitchell, M.P. As on the previous Sat.'lirday, ladies of the National Dofence (League were present, and dispensed refreshments to the Cadets and Territorials. The arrangements made by tho ladies were perfect, and their sorvices were heartily appreciated by tho young 60l'dier9. The opinion wag expressed by ofli cors that such work as that performed by tho ladies of the league, although introducing a now feature into tho military atmosphere of the Dominion, could not have anything but a good effect upon ihe youths,' and was therefore deserving <lf praise and encouragement; The number of competitors present was E49, made up of 143 Territorials, 50 members of liflo clubs, and the 50 Senior Cadets who fired off for the Cadet Championship. The Cadets and riflemen fired on the Collins Range, and the Territorials on the Sommorville range. The Senior Cadets Championship was won by Cadet D. A. Feist (Wellington College), who pained 37 points out <rf a possible • 40. Cadet Graham, also of Wellington Collego, being ninnor-up with 36 points. Appended are details of the vnrloui Jnatches:—
